    Philip McCormick, 53, was found guilty at Dublin District Court of assaulting prison officer Jamie Baron during a routine cell relocation at Mountjoy Prison in August 2024. McCormick became agitated after learning the cell he was being moved to was where a man had died from an overdose eight days earlier, and swung a plank of wood with tiles glued on it towards officers, striking Baron on the forearm. He had pleaded not guilty, claiming prison officers had beaten him. Judge Michele Finan imposed a six-month sentence, suspended for two years on his own bond of €200.
