Philip Dignam, 41, was sentenced to eight years in prison for sexually assaulting Kathleen Morris in Dublin in 2020, recording eight videos of the acts while she was asleep or unconscious. The pair had met in a consensual sexual relationship at hotel rooms. Dignam had previously received a fully suspended sentence in 2018 for possessing over 900 images and 13 videos of child sexual abuse, traced to him through an FBI investigation of the dark web site Playpen. The sexual assault case went to trial four times before Justice Burns imposed the sentence, suspending the final year on conditions. Philip Dignam, 41, of Lacken, Blessington, Wicklow, recorded eight videos of himself sexually assaulting Kathleen Morris while she was asleep or unconscious on dates unknown in 2020. Morris became aware of the assaults in 2022 when her then-partner found the videos on a phone she had previously used. Dignam pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually assaulting Morris after the case had gone to trial four times with delays relating to the video evidence. At the Central Criminal Court, Justice Paul Burns sentenced Dignam to eight years in prison, with the final year suspended on conditions including three years of Probation Service supervision, noting the offences warranted a headline sentence of nine years.
