    Peter O'Malley, 47, a former HSE manager from Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, was arrested after an FBI tip-off about his activity as an administrator of the Kik messaging app, with offences between December 2019 and April 2021. Gardaí searched his home in October 2021 and found 249 child abuse images on his personal phone. On 31 October 2024 he pleaded guilty at Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court to ten of 36 listed charges and was remanded in custody. On 25 November 2024 Judge Eoin Garavan sentenced him to six years in prison, backdated to 31 October 2024, with three years' post-release supervision; reports differ on whether the final nine months of a six-year-nine-month term were suspended.
