Peter McGinley, 34, of Glenwood Park, Letterkenny, was stopped in a taxi at the junction of Oldtown and Crievesmith, Letterkenny, at 1.43am on 11 February 2021, when he discarded a plastic wrapping containing white powder later confirmed as cocaine. More white powder was recovered during a search of McGinley, his friend, and the vehicle under the Misuse of Drugs Act. McGinley gave the false name John McGinley at arrest and made no admissions, claiming he did not know what the substance was. Judge Deirdre Gearty dismissed the case on 3 December 2021, giving McGinley the benefit of the doubt after one of the Gardaí involved was unable to attend court due to illness.
