On 29 November 2024, gardaí responded to a 999 call at around 10.40pm at the family home in Rathfarnham, Dublin, and arrested Peter Dunne, a 35-year-old man, who is alleged to have repeatedly punched and choked his 69-year-old mother as she lay in bed and to have punched his father while the father tried to save her. Dunne was charged with assault causing harm to his mother and made no reply at Tallaght Garda station. On 30 November 2024 he was refused bail by Judge Michele Finan at Dublin District Court and remanded in custody pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions, and he has yet to enter a plea and will appear in court again next week.
