Paul O'Brien, 47, of Forest Park, Killygordon, County Donegal, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment in April 2024 for sexually abusing Grace Kelly, 39, when she was between nine and 10 years old between January and December 1995. O'Brien, the older brother of the victim's friend and a neighbour, was reported to gardaí after Ms Kelly disclosed the abuse to her sibling. He pleaded not guilty to 15 counts of sexual assault at the Central Criminal Court, and a jury found him guilty of six counts after a nine-day trial in November 2023. Mr Justice David Keane imposed the sentence, noting the serious psychological damage to Ms Kelly and O'Brien's lack of previous convictions. O'Brien does not accept the verdict and maintains his innocence.
