Paul Lynch, a 56-year-old man formerly of Artane, Dublin, pleaded guilty in March 2018 to attempting to meet a child for the purposes of sexual exploitation after a child protection awareness group posed as an 11-year-old girl on social media. The chat became sexually explicit and Lynch sent a photograph of his genitals to the decoy, who livestreamed the confrontation on Facebook before gardaí arrived. Lynch told the court he was meeting the girl to give her a phone. On 15 May 2024, Judge Orla Crowe at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court imposed a sentence of two years and three months, backdated to February, after a headline sentence of three years.
