Paul Economopoulos, 28, a man from Tuam, was sentenced to 16 months in prison at Galway District Court in December 2021 after pleading guilty to two charges of possession of cocaine with intent to sell or supply, an assault on his girlfriend, theft of her phone, and drug driving. The offences occurred on 9 November 2019, 5 January 2021, and 9 January 2021 in Galway City. The assault at the Glen Oaks Hotel followed an argument over cocaine, and a night porter found him on top of the woman in the room. He received seven months consecutive for each drug charge plus two months for the assault, with concurrent sentences for the remaining offences. Leave to appeal was granted with a requirement for an independent surety of €800.
