Paul Boyce (46), with an address in Legan, Co Longford, is charged with false imprisonment, assault and threatening to kill his former partner, a woman, during an incident on the night of April 1 into the early hours of April 2, 2023, at Aghnavealoge, Legan. It is alleged that he detained her in his car for a near three-hour ordeal, assaulted her and threatened to kill her, and that a firearm was discharged inside the vehicle, although a forensic report found no firearm residue at the scene. He was remanded in custody, pleaded guilty in January 2024 to false imprisonment, assault and threatening to kill, and a charge of endangerment was dropped. In March 2024 Judge Kenneth Connolly jailed him for six years and six months, with the final 12 months suspended and the sentence backdated to April 4, 2023.
