Paul Arthur, 59, of Conwall, Letterkenny, Co Donegal, was found guilty by a jury of two counts of anal rape and one count of vaginal rape of Susan Lynch, his former partner of 14 years, on two occasions in September 2017 and July 2018 in her bed in Donegal. Lynch gave a statement to gardaí in October 2019 and the trial was held in Castlebar, Co Mayo, where the jury returned guilty verdicts in November 2024. Arthur was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court on 17 January 2025, with the sentence backdated to when he went into custody. Defence counsel confirmed there would be no appeal against the conviction.
