Patrick Ward, 36, with an address at Clanrye Park, Newry, was sentenced at Dundalk District Court for impeding a garda. He got into a taxi after leaving a house whose occupants were suspected of being involved in the sale or supply of drugs. When the taxi was stopped by gardai, he swallowed a sheet of Alprazolam tablets after officers told him not to. Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a two-month sentence, suspended on a one-year bond of good behaviour. He had 61 previous convictions.
