Patrick Rea, 55, was sentenced on 18 March 2026 to 12 years for raping and indecently assaulting his cousin Donna Fahy in a bathroom at an address in Longford Town between October 1986 and December 1989. Fahy made a complaint to gardaí in 2022, which led to an investigation. Rea was convicted of one count of rape and two of indecent assault after a trial at the Central Criminal Court in January 2026. The judge set a headline sentence of 14 years, reduced to 12 years due to Rea's age at the time, with post-release supervision for life and no-contact conditions. Rea is also serving a life sentence for murder following a conviction in the Edinburgh High Court in 2011.
