Patrick Power, a 77-year-old man, was found passed out in a bedroom at 8 Freren Court, Kilkenny, when Garda David Cosgrave and four other gardaí entered the property on foot of a warrant on 30 October 2020. Power handed over a bag of white substance that Forensic Science Ireland later confirmed was 6.4g of heroin in 28 deal bags, and he admitted it was for personal use but said he would give it to others. He was arrested at St Agnes Road, Crumlin, Dublin on 19 January 2022 and charged with possession of drugs for sale or supply. Judge Geraldine Carthy at Kilkenny District Court convicted him and sentenced him to nine months in prison, backdated to January 2022.
