On 25 July 2025, Abdullah Khan, a 24-year-old Pakistani man, poured petrol on the front door of Conor McGregor's Black Forge Inn in Walkinstown, south Dublin, and set it alight with a match. Four days later, on 29 July 2025, he stabbed Garda Gary Lynch in the arm with a knife on Capel Street in Dublin city centre while shouting Allahu Akbar, and attempted to assault Garda Patrick Nevin. Khan was arrested on 8 August 2025, charged with eight offences including two terrorist activity charges, pleaded guilty to all eight at the Special Criminal Court on 12 January 2026, and was sentenced on 2 November 2026 to six and a half years in prison with four years of post-release supervision.

Raonaid Murray, a 17-year-old woman, was stabbed to death on 3 September 1999 while walking home from Dun Laoghaire town centre, and her body was found at Silchester Crescent, Glenageary, at 12.33am the following morning. Over 27 years, Gardaí have taken more than 4,500 witness statements and arrested 13 suspects, including man Graham Dwyer, man Farah Swaleh Noor, and man Patrick Nevin, but no prime suspect or motive has been identified. Twelve suspects were arrested and released without charge. On 3 September 2026, Gardaí issued a renewed appeal for information on the 27th anniversary, asking anyone with doubts about an alibi already provided to come forward.

Patrick Nevin (27) is to stand trial at the Circuit Criminal Court over an alleged robbery of a man and threat to kill or cause serious harm at Market Square, Longford, on 27 March 2023. Garda John Hanley arrested him and charged him before a Longford District Court sitting, which was reported on 26 May 2023. At that sitting he made no reply after caution, the prosecution applied for him to be sent forward for trial, and Judge Bernadette Owens refused bail and sent him forward. He has pleaded not guilty, and a separate section 2 assault charge against him was adjourned to June 20.
