Patrick Murtagh, a 75-year-old man, was arrested in Dublin for failing to comply with High Court orders requiring him to allow access to his apartment at Ignatius Nordell House, Greenville Street, Dublin 1, where a build-up of rubbish, food waste and a potential rodent infestation posed safety risks to other elderly tenants. On 15 August 2022, Mr Justice Mark Sanfey granted leave for short service seeking his attachment and committal to prison, and on 18 August, Judge Garrett Simons directed gardaí to arrest him. On 30 August 2022, Mr Murtagh was arrested and brought to Mountjoy Garda station before appearing at the High Court, where he represented himself and said he had not granted access due to intimidatory legal language in letters from the charity. He was released from custody after giving a sworn undertaking not to interfere with works and agreed to stay at a B&B until repairs were completed.
