Patrick Molloy, of Tinnycross, Tullamore, Co Offaly, aged 33 or 34 according to differing reports, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm after a male hospital worker was kneed in the groin at about 10pm on 22 December 2023 at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise, Co Laois, causing genital bruising. The case was reported in late June 2024, when the judge adjourned it to 7 October for a victim impact statement and finalisation. In October 2024 the court heard that a victim impact report had been handed in but not read aloud, and Judge Nicola Andrews said she would consider a suspended sentence and a two-year peace bond if Molloy brought €1,000 to court. The latest report gives 14 October as the date for finalisation.
