  On 20 October 2023 at around 9.30am in Ardee, County Louth, Patrick McGuinness, a 62-year-old man with an address in Warrenpoint, County Down, repeatedly struck a garda Armed Support Unit vehicle while trying to evade gardaí. He was arrested after he lost control and crashed, and he later pleaded guilty to endangerment and to money laundering over cash seized from his front seat passenger. The judge at Dundalk Circuit Court noted his role as sole carer for his mother and that he had no previous convictions. On 28 April 2026 he was reported as jailed for 15 months, with a two-year driving disqualification.
