Patrick McDonnell (35), of Forest Park, Portlaoise, was accused of holding a mobile phone while driving a Ford Focus at Colliers Lane, Portlaoise, on 16 June 2024. Garda Roy Cooper pulled him over and issued a ticket for driving while using a mobile phone, and McDonnell began recording the stop and said he was live on Facebook. He had 26 previous convictions and was not present when Portlaoise District Court heard the case. Judge Andrew Cody fined him €500 and disqualified him from driving for six months, as reported on 11 May 2025.

Patrick McDonnell, 32, of Longford, was sentenced at Longford District Court for threatening and abusive behaviour towards Gardaí Paul Stuart and Denise Dockery at a checkpoint on Ardnacassa Avenue, Longford, on 9 January 2021. The court heard that McDonnell waved cash at the officers, taunted them, and pointed his mobile phone at them after Garda Dockery stopped his car and attempted to seize the vehicle under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act. McDonnell pleaded guilty to the Section 6 public order charge. Judge Bernadette Owens convicted him and sentenced him to one month in prison, suspended for six months.
