• Man pleads guilty to careless driving causing death in Oranmore Careless driving causing death · Co. Galway

  Sheila Creedon, a woman in her 80s originally from Cork, was struck by a car while walking near the Lidl supermarket on the Old Limerick Road in Oranmore, Co. Galway, at approximately 5:05pm on 6 January 2023. The driver, 82-year-old man Patrick Martin, left the scene before Gardaí arrived, and Ms Creedon died at University Hospital Galway later that night. Gardaí identified the driver and vehicle and appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage from the area. On 5 June 2025, Martin pleaded guilty at Galway Circuit Court to careless driving causing death, leaving the scene, and failing to report the matter to gardaí, with sentencing adjourned to July.
