Patrick Kerry (26), of Cashel, Tipperary, was charged with possessing a blade and causing criminal damage to a mattress in a cell at Abbeyleix Garda Station, Laois, on August 11. He was also charged with having a cutthroat razor at Esker Hills shop in Portlaoise on January 31, 2025, and with abusive or threatening behaviour at Best Choice Pizza in Portlaoise on August 1, 2023. Kerry denied the Abbeyleix charges but pleaded guilty to the Esker Hills and pizzeria matters, and Judge Susan Fay imposed a total of seven months, suspended for two years. The Abbeyleix matter was adjourned to Portlaoise District Court on December 9 for hearing.

Alcohol valued at €210 and a set of keys were taken in a burglary at the Manor Hotel in Abbeyleix, County Laois, on 25 February 2022. A further assault causing harm is alleged to have occurred at an address in Oakleaf Place, Portlaoise, on 10 September 2022. Patrick Kerry, 24, a man of Portlaoise, was charged with both offences and made his first court appearance in early March 2023. Judge Andrew Cody remanded him on bail, with conditions to stay out of Abbeyleix and remain of sober habits, and he is due back before Portlaoise District Court on 16 March 2023.
