Patrick Harte, 84, a retired school principal, was convicted by a jury at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of 17 counts of indecent or sexual assault against boys at Sancta Maria Christian Brothers school on Synge Street, Dublin, on dates between 1969 and 1986. In December 2024 he was jailed for four years for offences against eight former pupils from 1967 to 1970, and this is his fourth set of prosecutions. After a trial in December, Judge Martina Baxter imposed a four-year effective sentence, with all terms concurrent and none suspended, on 18 March 2026. Harte maintains his innocence and does not accept the jury's verdict.

Patrick Harte, an 81-year-old retired school principal, was charged in July 2023 with 19 indecent assaults allegedly committed against eight boys at Sancta Maria Christian Brothers primary school on Synge Street, Dublin, between 1969 and 1988. He had previously been charged in May 2022 with 90 counts, including 83 indecent assaults, one attempted indecent assault and six sexual assaults, involving 20 pupils over the period 1967 to 1995. The investigation was carried out by the Divisional Protective Services Unit at Kevin Street Garda station, which spoke to 298 former pupils and received 117 witness statements. Harte, who worked at the school as a teacher and later principal from 1967 to 2008, denies all the allegations. His next hearing is at Cloverhill District Court on 4 August 2023.
