Julie Flood, a 51-year-old woman, stabbed her 94-year-old father Patrick Flood with a kitchen knife at their home in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, on his 94th birthday, 12 April 2019, and he died two days later. She was charged with murder and pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. At the Central Criminal Court, a jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity after 48 minutes of deliberation on 20 April 2023. Mr Justice Paul McDermott remanded her to the Central Mental Hospital in Portrane with a return date of 4 May 2023.
