Sarah Behan, a woman, was assaulted by her then partner Patrick Fitzpatrick, a man and former Fair City actor, in a two-hour beating on 18 September 2016 in Dublin. Fitzpatrick pulled her from a window by the hair, dragged her, and tried to strangle her, leaving clumps of missing hair and facial bruises. The case was remanded 14 times and went through two appeal hearings over two years and four months before Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty. In January 2019 he received a one-month suspended sentence and served two days in prison, while a separate 2015 assault on a previous partner was dealt with in May 2018 by a 12-month probation bond.
