John McGinley, a 20-year-old Irish man from Letterkenny, stabbed Patrick Durning in the ear and neck while Durning waited for a taxi on Main Street on 31 October 2022, and punched and kicked 70-year-old James Doheny at Glenwood Park on 16 June 2023. McGinley was arrested, charged with assault causing harm, assault, and possession of an article, and pleaded guilty to all three offences at Letterkenny Circuit Court.
