On 21 June 2025 a large kitchen knife was found in the pocket of Patrick Donohue, 31, of Bailieboro, Cavan, at Harbour View, Market Square, Longford. Garda Maeve Daly arrested him at 3.20am under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990, and he was charged about an hour and a half later. At Longford District Court, Judge Bernadette Owens asked a probation officer to assess him for additional community service, and the defence said he had no intention of using the knife. The judge imposed 60 hours of community service in lieu of a three-month sentence, as reported on 4 October 2025.
