Patrick Cawley, a 35-year-old man, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to robbery, assault and theft arising from three separate incidents in Dublin city centre, including the robbery of a German tourist in his 60s on Aston Quay in May 2023. The other offences involved a broken jaw caused by Cawley and another man on Westmoreland Street and a mugging at a Luas stop on 28 April 2024. Cawley, who has 127 previous convictions, was arrested on 17 January 2025 while serving a sentence. On 10 July 2025, Judge Orla Crowe sentenced him to consecutive terms totalling five years and three months, with the final 12 months suspended, leaving an effective term of four years and three months.
