  Customs officers assisted by the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit stopped and searched Patrick Cahill, a 39-year-old man from Blanchardstown, at Cork Airport on 31 August 2026 after he collected a suitcase from the luggage carousel on a flight from Portugal. Ten packets of cocaine weighing 12 kg, with an estimated street value of €1 million, were found concealed in the suitcase. Cahill was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine for sale and supply. He appeared at Cork District Court on 2 September, where Judge David Waters remanded him in custody with consent to bail subject to sureties and conditions. He was further remanded until 7 October, when he is due to appear via video link for DPP directions.

  On July 15, 2023, Patrick Cahill, of Knocknasra, Abbeyfeale, was driving his father's car when Gardaí asked him for proof of insurance at the scene of a traffic accident at Gortaboy, Limerick. He did not produce documents in the required timeframe and was summonsed to court. He admitted a charge of driving without insurance at Limerick District Court, sitting in Newcastle West, where he had two previous convictions for the same offence. On May 4, 2024, Judge Carol Ann Coolican jailed him for two months and disqualified him from driving for two years.
