Patrick Byrne (28), formerly of Cooleven Close, Cloverhill Road, Dublin, assaulted his then partner over two days on 11 and 12 February 2024, whipping her with a broom handle, holding a Stanley blade to her throat and repeatedly telling her he would kill her. The woman reported him to gardaí in July 2024, and while in custody he sent her threatening texts and made calls urging her to drop the charges between 11 April and 20 May 2024. Byrne pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 26 May 2025 to assault causing harm, producing a broom handle, a threat to kill and threatening a witness. Judge Pauline Codd jailed him for six years, as reported on 1 December 2025, with the term not starting until next March, when his current sentence is spent.

Patrick Byrne, 27, struck a 33-year-old man twice over the head with a bike saddle at Westmoreland Street, Dublin 2, at 9pm on 15 October 2023. Gardaí arrested Byrne about an hour later on Aston Quay after reviewing CCTV footage. Byrne pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing harm and was sentenced to two years and nine months in jail, backdated to when he first went into custody, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 11 November 2024. The latest development is the prosecution's request to re-mention the case over a possible breach of a suspended sentence.
