A Staffordshire Bull Terrier attacked a woman and her family pet at Newbridge, Askeaton, County Limerick, at 1.50pm on 18 January 2021, causing injuries to her right and left arm. The dog had no collar, chain or leash, and was not muzzled. Patrick Aherne, a 28-year-old man of Stoney Nook, Ballyann, Askeaton, was prosecuted before Newcastle West Court for having an uncontrolled dog under the Control of Dogs Act. Judge Carol Anne Coolican adjourned the case until July 2022 for a victim impact statement and medical report. Aherne was not present in court and has no previous convictions.
