• Gardaí take no further action in Bishop Casey child abuse file Child sexual abuse (under investigation) · Co. Galway

Patricia Donovan, a woman in her 60s, alleged that her uncle, former Bishop of Galway Eamonn Casey, first raped her at age five and the abuse continued for years. She reported the claims to gardaí in 2005, but Casey was never charged and died in 2017 having always denied the allegations. Following an RTÉ documentary in 2024, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris directed the Garda National Protective Services Bureau to re-examine the original investigation file. In July 2025, the review concluded with no further investigative actions identified.
