• Perjury conviction overturned for Limerick hurler at circuit court Perjury · Co. Limerick

Pat Ryan, a 28-year-old man from Doon, Co Limerick, and three-time All-Ireland winning hurler, gave sworn evidence on 21 October 2020 that he had not received a fixed charge penalty notice for a 2018 speeding offence. He was arrested on suspicion of perjury in March 2021 and pleaded guilty at Limerick District Court in March 2023, receiving a two-week jail sentence. His solicitor appealed the severity of the sentence to Limerick Circuit Court. In November 2023, Judge O'Donnell allowed the appeal and Ryan left the court with no criminal conviction after completing 100 hours of voluntary community service.
