  • Murder of Loughnane brothers in Shanaglish, Galway, left without verdict Murder · Co. Galway

Patrick and Harry Loughnane, brothers from Shanaglish, County Galway, were abducted by Black and Tans on 26 November 1920 while threshing on their farm, and Michael Carroll was arrested at Tubber, County Clare, and beaten. The brothers were taken to Gort RIC barracks and Drumharsna Castle, where they were beaten, reportedly dragged behind a lorry, and shot. Their mutilated bodies were found in a pond at Dombriste on 5 December, with evidence suggesting a grenade had been exploded in Pat's mouth. A military court was convened in Gort on 8 December but no official verdict was given.
