A man in his 70s was found injured and unresponsive at a residential property in St Catherine's Grange, Waterford City, shortly after 2pm on Friday 1 August 2025, and was pronounced dead at University Hospital Waterford two days later. The victim was Pat Fitzgerald, a man in his 70s, a former Waterford Crystal glass worker and ATGWU trade union official. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and appeared before Waterford District Court on Sunday 3 August. On 25 November 2025, David Norris, a man aged 35 of New Ross, Co Wexford, was charged with the murder of Pat Fitzgerald at Waterford District Court after an initial assault causing harm charge was withdrawn, and was remanded in custody to appear before the Central Criminal Court with no trial date set.
