latest first- Girl's hit-and-run case settled for €30,000 in Meath Personal injury (road traffic incident / hit-and-run) · Co. Meath
A seven-year-old girl was allegedly knocked from her bike by an unidentified vehicle while cycling behind her mother, who was walking, near Rathfeigh, Tara, County Meath, on the morning of 8 August 2015, sustaining a fractured elbow that required pinning and significant psychological injuries. The driver was never identified, so the Motor Insurers Bureau of Ireland was sued in the High Court. The case previously came before the Circuit Court, which turned down the settlement offer. In October 2022, Ms Justice Carmel Stewart approved a €30,000 settlement, with the girl's counsel noting risks in the case including a discrepancy over whether an ambulance was called and the destruction of the bike before gardaí could examine it.
