Padraic Ryan, a 43-year-old man from Lucan, was fatally struck by a Renault Traffic van while crossing the N7 near Kingswood, Tallaght, at about 4.15am on 30 September 2018. The van driver, a man whose name was not given, was estimated to be travelling at 77 to 94km/h on a 100km/h stretch and had passed a breathalyser test. An inquest heard in November 2022 that gardaí had failed to respond to a 999 call from a taxi driver about a pedestrian on the N7 at Rathcoole about 45 minutes earlier due to a radio fault in a patrol car. A narrative verdict was returned with no formal recommendation.
