latest first- Man pleads not guilty, claiming to be one of 10 identical brothers
Paddy Carthy, 27, of Athy, Co Kildare, is accused of stealing six duvet covers valued at €183 from Harry Corrys in Portlaoise on 12 August 2025, and another male allegedly walked in with him. The goods were not recovered, and gardaí said he has 84 previous convictions and was serving a prison sentence with a January 2027 release date. In April 2026 he appeared by video link before Portlaoise District Court, where reports differ on his plea: his solicitor indicated a guilty plea, but he pleaded not guilty and claimed to be one of 10 identical brothers. The judge requested probation and governor's reports and adjourned the case to 25 May.
