Company Sergeant Uel Fisher, a 54-year-old married father of three, was accused of threatening to kill Corporal Owen McLoughlin and throwing pint glasses during a social function in the NCOs mess at Finner Camp, Ballyshannon, Co Donegal, between 14 and 15 November 2017. The DPP had decided on no prosecution after a Garda investigation, but the case was reopened after political representations to the Minister for Defence. Fisher pleaded not guilty to all five charges at a hearing on 4 October 2022 at McKee Barracks, Dublin, with trial fixed for 22 November 2022 at Finner Camp. At the trial, the threat to kill and drunkenness charges were dropped and Fisher pleaded guilty to three charges of conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline. The hearing was adjourned to 11 January 2023 for a victim impact statement from Cpl McLoughlin.
