Videos circulated online showing an Egyptian refugee named Osama allegedly assaulted by security at City West direct provision centre in Dublin on 14 August 2022. Osama, who was evicted from the centre for asking for food, spent the night in Connolly Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Say No to Direct Provision claimed on Facebook that they had reported the incident to An Garda Síochána, but Gardaí confirmed no such report exists in their database for 12 to 16 August. City West management also denied any knowledge of an assault on a resident. The video, watched 200,000 times and retweeted by People Before Profit, was later exposed as a hoax.
