Orla, a 21-year-old woman who moved from France to Ireland at age 11, was sexually abused online over roughly three years when a boy her age on Facebook asked for intimate photos and his brother threatened to share them if she did not send more. The abuse continued daily and Orla attempted to take her own life by cutting herself and ingesting medication. She and her mother Lindsay went to a gardaí station after the attempted overdose, and in November 2022 Orla spoke about the abuse on the Ryan Tubridy Show. The Facebook account is still active and the person behind it has received no punishment.
