Oliver Berry, 68, of Newtown Lawns, Mullingar, was convicted in June 2023 of 25 counts of indecent assault relating to his daughter Sharon Berry between 1980 and 1986. The abuse, which began when Sharon was aged between seven and 12, occurred up to three times a week and also involved physical violence. Ms Justice Patricia Ryan sentenced Berry to seven years on July 25, 2023, to run consecutive to a prison term he was already serving. The Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal against the sentence in November 2025, finding the trial judge made no error given the gravity of the offences.
