On 31 July 2023, Anthony McGinn, 61, of Drumloo, Newbliss, Co Monaghan, was driving four teenagers from Largy College in Clones to a debs ball in Monaghan town when his white BMW left the road and struck a tree at Legnakelly on the N54, killing Kiea McCann, 17, and Dlava Mohamed, 16, and seriously injuring Dlava's sister Avin Mohamed and Oisin Clerkin. McGinn was arrested in December 2023 and charged in March 2024 with dangerous driving causing the deaths of the two teenagers and dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to Avin Mohamed. He pleaded guilty to all charges at Monaghan Circuit Court in January 2025. On 14 May 2025, Judge John Aylmer sentenced McGinn to seven years' imprisonment, with a nine-year headline sentence and two years suspended, and disqualified him from driving for 15 years.
