On Friday 8 May 2026, Gardaí and Revenue Customs seized about 100kg of cannabis, valued by the State at €2 million, from a shed at Cahermurphy, Kilmihil, Co Clare, in a joint operation. A man in his 30s was arrested and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. Odhran O'Brien, 32, of Cahermurphy, was charged on 9 May with possession of cannabis for sale or supply and unlawful possession, and appeared before a special sitting of Ennis District Court that day, where he was remanded in custody. Bail was refused at Ennis District Court on 13 May, and O'Brien later secured High Court bail. The latest development is that on 15 June 2026 the case was adjourned to 7 October 2026 so the DPP can make directions, with O'Brien on bail.
