Two brothers, Neville Moody (52) and Norman Moody (53), were sentenced in October 2024 for the rape and indecent assault of three children at their family farm at Clongarret, Clonbullogue, Co Offaly, where the children had been living in a mobile home. The offences took place between 1 January 1987 and 31 December 1989, when the victims, Charlotte Moody, Annette Moody and Kenneth Moody, were aged between four and a half and eight. Complaints were not made to gardaí until 2020, when Charlotte reported the abuse; Neville Moody was arrested and denied the allegations, and was later convicted after trial of two counts of raping his niece and one count of indecently assaulting her brother, while Norman Moody pleaded guilty on the morning of his trial to three counts of indecently assaulting one niece and one count of indecently assaulting a second niece. Neville Moody was sentenced to nine years with the final year suspended for two years, and Norman Moody to four and a half years with the final six months suspended for a year or six months. The three complainants waived their anonymity to allow the brothers to be named in reporting.
