Patrick Honan, 69, was sentenced on 26 April 2024 to 13 years in prison, with the final 18 months suspended, for raping and sexually abusing his daughter Noreen Honan over a 13-year period at their family home in Doonbeg, Co Clare. The abuse took place between 1977 and 1989, when Noreen was aged between three and a half and 16. Noreen made a complaint to gardaí in 2019, and Honan was arrested in July 2020, denying the allegations when interviewed. A jury at the Central Criminal Court in February 2024 convicted him of 48 sample counts, including 25 of rape and 23 of indecent assault. The judge also directed that Honan not approach his daughter at any time.
