• Monaghan man's sexual abuse sentence on appeal in Dublin Indecent assault (sexual abuse) · Co. Monaghan

Gerry Harte, 72, of Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, sexually abused his two younger sisters and younger brother at the family home during the 1970s and 1980s. The victims, Noeleen Connors, 67, Fiona Harte Powell, 56, and PJ Harte, 59, waived their right to anonymity to allow Harte to be named. Harte was interviewed by gardaí in November 2021, pleaded guilty to 15 counts of indecent assault, and was sentenced to eight years at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin in October 2024. His lawyers argued the sentence was disproportionate at the Court of Appeal in January 2026, and Ms Justice Isobel Kennedy reserved judgment.
