Nora Sheehan, a 54-year-old mother of three from Ballyphehane, Co. Cork, was last seen on 6 June 1981 after attending South Infirmary Hospital for a dog bite, and her body was found six days later by forestry workers at Shippool Woods, near Innishannon. Noel Long, now 77, was arrested in Bandon on 28 June 2022 and charged with her murder. He was found guilty by a unanimous jury at the Central Criminal Court in August 2023 and sentenced to the mandatory life sentence. Long has since lodged an appeal against his conviction, arguing prejudicial delay and the admissibility of DNA evidence, which is being heard in the Court of Appeal.
