Charlie Ward, 44, a former MMA fighter from Mountmellick, Co Laois, and Noel Carroll, 57, of Portlaoise, are accused of corruptly requesting bribes from a garda for confidential information between January and March 2022, with Ward also facing a charge of perverting the course of justice. The pair were investigated by the Garda anti-corruption unit and charged under the 2018 Criminal Justice (Corruption Offences) Act. They appeared at Dublin District Court on May 9, 2025, made no reply to the charges, and were remanded on bail. Judge Treasa Kelly sent them forward for trial to the Circuit Court, with a next appearance set for July 25.
