On July 19, 2024, Nigel Curran (36), of Abbeylara, County Longford, was a disqualified driver when gardaí observed a driver at Clonaghmore, Abbeylara, cover his face as he tried to evade them. Gardaí followed the vehicle, which took off at speed, and Curran was summonsed. On January 22, 2026, Curran pleaded guilty at Longford District Court to two counts of dangerous driving, and the defence said he entered an early guilty plea. Judge Bernadette Owens said serious consideration had to be given to jailing him because of his previous convictions, and she directed a probation report, a community service suitability assessment and a pro-social driving course. The case was adjourned to March 24, and no sentence has been imposed yet.
