  Tony Gummerson, 42, a man from Greystones, County Wicklow, was found guilty by a jury in June 2022 of four counts of sexual assault, two counts of oral rape and one count of rape of his step-niece Nicole Gummerson, who was aged between seven and eight at the time. The abuse took place between September 1997 and March 1998 while Gummerson, then 17, was babysitting the child. The victim disclosed what had happened in 2016. In February 2023, Ms Justice Eileen Creedon at the Central Criminal Court sentenced Gummerson to nine years' imprisonment with two years suspended, backdated to when he went into custody in June 2022.
