Nicolae Gorobceanu, a 34-year-old Moldovan man, was driving between Dublin and Cork on 20 February 2022 when gardaí performing a speed check at 2.25pm spotted his vehicle and followed it for 13km on the motorway at speeds of 170 to 190kph. He failed a roadside breath test with a reading of 75mgs per 100mls. He was charged with dangerous driving at Trumera, Mountrath, drink driving at Clonadacasey on the M7, and having no insurance. He appeared before Portlaoise District Court in June 2022 and was fined €750 and disqualified from driving, with the bans running concurrently.
